Physical description, [6], [102] entries in ink, in a generally clear cursive hand , probably that of William Jones the First Officer. Signed daily by Bulkeley Williams in ink. The binding is of light green paper over substantial boards, the pictorial upper cover is soiled as the the lower, the cloth spine is partially defective, , published in London by Norie & Wilson.The log book was kept on board the iron screw steam yacht Zingara, sailing from Beaumaris, Isle of Anglesey, North Wales, to the Mediterannean Sea, leaving Baeumaris on 26 February, 1888, and returnig there on 6 July, 1888. Page [3[, of the first series, lists the Master, Officers, and Crew, 28 in total Page [5] of the first series lists the passengers which included Williams - Bulkeley's Wife Lady Magdalen ( nee Yorke) William- Bulkeley; The Right Honourable Alma [Martha] Paget; Caryl .? .? : and two Ladies Maids - Miss Clare and Miss Cockerton. The RYA Zingara left Baumaris at 2 pm on Sunday ,26 February, 1888, after hoisting the Blue Peter and the firing of 11 guns, and set sail for the Mediterranean Sea. Zingara visited Lisbon( Portugal), Gibraltar (Great Britain), Algiers (Algeria)s Bougie (Algeria), Tunis (Tunisia), Syracuse (Sicily, Italy), Catania (Sicily), Suda Bay (Crete, Greece), Rhodes (Greece), Marmarice (Turkey), Constanipole (Turkey), Athens ( Greece), Messina (Sicily. Italy), Naples (Italy), Port Mahon (Minorca, Spain)After Port Mahon Zingara returned to Beaumaris via Gibraltar. The log includes ' Occurances and Remarks' en voyage, the weather, shore visits ( the crew ' go ashore, in Tunis Bay, . some of them returned a little alivated' (inebriated?), the paying off of a crew member in Malta, a visit non board the 'Man of War' H.M.S. Alexandra, etc; etc. The voyage ends on 6th.July, 1888, with ' all the men being paid.' Iron screw steam yacht Zingara, was built by Robert Steele, Greenock, 1875, 418 grross tons, 263 nett tons, 186.3 x 25.2 x 15.1 ft, engines 80hp, 1 screw, by builder. Sir Richard Henry Bulkeley - Williams ,12th Baronet ( 1862 - 1942) was a Brirish Sailor , yachting enthusiast and public official. He was reputed to be the "largest landowner in Wales" and hence the "King of Wales." His lands included Snowdon and the highest peak in England and Wales Y-Wyddfa, 3,560 ft above sea level. He was a member of the Royal Yacht Squadron (RYS) for 58 years. Seemingly he owned the largest number of Yachts than any other RYS Mamber, which included for a short time the royal yacht Brittania.
