The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with glassine wrappers. Volume I is illustrated with forty-nine plates, many of which are in colour, and a map of Kent. Volume II is illustrated with thirty-one plates, many of which are in colour. Collated, complete. A comprehensive study of the birds of Kent, with topographical and geological details concerning the county, and information on the migration and population of its birds. This work was written and illustrated by James M. Harrison, with a foreword by Sir Philip Manson-Bahr. Volume I covers the Black-Throated Diver to the Puffin. Volume II covers the Pallas's Sand-Grouse to the Snow-Finch. There is an index of scientific and English names to the rear of both volumes. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with glassine wrappers. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition. Gilt remains bright. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd spot to the fore edge, affecting the occasional page, and spotting to the first and last few pages of Volume II. 4cm tear to the front of the glassine wrapper to Volume I, with a little chipping to the tail of the spine. Glassine wrapper to Volume II remains smart. Near Fine. book.

The snuff-boxes feature in the latter, and include: '112 A Louis XVI. plain oblong gold snuff-box, with rounded ends and reeded borders - bearing the mark of Henri Clavel, Paris 1778 - the rim engraved "DU PETIT DUNKERQUE"' and '122 A LOUIS XV. SHELL-SHAPED GOLD BOX, the lid finely chased with Classical figures before a building, and with shells and scrollwork round the sides, the rim engraved "I. CUNST," the interior of the lid set with an enamel portrait of a gentleman wearing yellow coat and fur-trimmed blue cloak' and '124 AN OLD ENGLISH GOLD SNUFF-BOX, of shell shape, the lid finely chased with Mars, Venus and Cupid, a lion's mask and scrollwork, and with panels of flowers and scrollwork round the sides and on the base - London hall-mark, circa 1750 - probably by Thomas Beere'.
