Paperback. Zustand: New. Language: English. About the book:-Karpuramanjari is a Prakrit drama (Sattak) composed by the famous Sanskrit playwright and poetic poet Rajasekhar. This work has a special place in the pure literary works of Prakrit language. It has been said in Karpuramanjari The drama composition which is similar in many things in the play is called sattaka. But it does not have entrances, poisons and numbers. According to Sahityadarpan, Sattak is composed in Prakrit language from beginning to end, and not like Sanskrit plays in which only some characters are composed in Prakrit language. It has the characteristic of wonderful rasa. The word Javanikantar is used for the number. In the rest of the matter, the plot is often like a drama. Both have the title after the heroine. Rajasekhara had extraordinary authority over Sanskrit and Prakrit languages. They were called Sarvabhanishanishan. The nature of Karpuramanjari is mature and Pranjal. Earlier it was said that its poetry is in Shaurseni Prakrit. But Dr. Manmohan Ghosh has proved this opinion invalid. In this, mainly Shaurseni is used only. In this, the poet has made mature and successful use of Sanskrit verses like Sragdhara, Shardulvikridit, Basanttilka etc. There are also Prakrit verses in it. About the Author:- Manomohan Ghose ( 1844 1896) was the first practicing barrister of Indian origin. He is notable for his contributions towards the fields of women's education, for arousing the patriotic feeling of his countrymen and for being one of the earliest persons in the country in organised national politics. At the same time his Anglicised habits often made him a target of ridicule in Calcutta. He was the son of Ramlochan Ghose, of Bikrampur (now Munshiganj in Bangladesh). His father was a renowned sub-judge and a patriot, and had acquired his broad frame of mind from Ram Mohan Roy, when he came in contact with him. He was associated with Hindu Mahila Vidyalaya and after Annette Akroyd was married, with the revival of the school as Banga Mahila Vidyalaya. Erstausgabe
First Edition. Octavo. 24cm. Publisher's decorated beige cloth, titled and decorated in black to spine and front board. 55pp.; [1]. Bumping to corners and spine ends, strong and tight, with some thumbing and soiling to the cloth in places; internally clean and fresh, printed in English and Sanskrit, with the illustrated front panel of the glassine dustjacket laid into the book, a few neat pencil annotations in places, illustrated throughout. A very good, clean copy. A bi-lingual manual of interpretation and meaning devoted to the gestures and poses used in traditional Hindu dance and staged drama. Ghosh seems to have been a true renaissance man, a scholar in Indian linguistics at Calcutta University; his translation and interpretations appear here for the first time, as part of Pandit Amareswar Thakur's Calcutta Sanskrit Series (of which this volume is No. 5). Ghosh's other work included cultural and anthropological subjects like traditional Indian sexuality texts, translations of other aspects of traditional Hindu culture and sanskrit texts including a two volume translation of the Natya Shastra, and digests of world politics for Indian audiences. Book production values are necessarily cheap, with thin paper and visible re-use of elements from other publications, nevertheless producing a volume that is aesthetically very pleasing.
