The inordinate process of globalization has seen an intense movement of the world on social, cultural, economic, political and ecological fronts leading to integration, unification, homogenization and transformation of society and environment at the global level. Due to its enduring and manifold impacts, scholars are having varied perceptions about the nature, magnitude, discourse, policies and practices associated with globalization. It is an important issue of concern whether to consider it benign and a blessing or a curse for mankind. Nevertheless, the way globalization process has operated during the last couple of decades, it has become clear that it is an evolving reality. Its contours have changed significantly in due course of its evolution and diffusion at global level. Keeping above perspectives as the backdrop, through the edited volume, the effort is to debunk the enigma associated with the process of globalization, and to understand comprehensively the inter-linkages between globalization, environment and society by taking into consideration, the strands of emerging discourse , ecological dimension , social dimension and economic dimension . Each strand of thought, mentioned above, is an attempt to shed light on one major area of debate evolved at the global level due to advent of globalization, taking into account the viewpoints of the eminent scholars.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. Language: English. ABOUT THE BOOK: Globalisation, social justice and sustainable development are obstinately interconnected: the relationship is intuitively straight forward, yet somewhat complex. Most recently serious divergence is noticed and experienced in the expected juxtaposition between the three very important components sweeping the world in their wave and the actual reality which is transfiguring and hence attracted the attention worldwide due to the emergent tribulations. At such a time when the galaxy of scholars are grappling globally to comprehend the nexus between globalisation and sustainable development, its impact on the marginalised sections and concern for promoting social justice, present volume is contoured to ascertain the Indian experiences. The volume provides a comprehensive thematic account of the issues and concerns of globalisation, social justice and sustainable development in India by dividing the papers into three sections. Each section interrogates the nuances of an important facet of globalization, viz. 'Globalisation and Social Justice', 'Socioeconomic Aspects of Globalisation', and 'Globalisation, Environment and Sustainable Development'. Moreover, the major focus of the volume is to comprehensively identify the diverse issues and models of development triggered under globalization with a view to capture grey areas and to facilitate appropriate policy making to promote sustainable development and social justice in India. Due to having broader canvass and interdisciplinary nature of issues covered, the book is of immense significance for academicians, researchers, postgraduate and graduate level students of social sciences and development studies, policy makers and NGOs working in the area of globalisation, environment, sustainable development, social justice and human rights. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book provides a comprehensive account of asymmetric linkage in the trilogy of environment, development and sustainability and its impact on society. It examines varied perspectives and issues of development related to environmental destruction and sustainability challenges. By examining the recent trends of development and recording the dilemmas which are creating ecological imbalances, it explores some alternative ways of development to achieve sustainability. Divided into three parts, it has a broad canvass. The first section examines critically the 'perspectives' on ecology, practice and ethics, rural development and man-forest interaction in the metropolis. 'Issues' of dams, river, agricultural distress, environmental migration, eco-tourism, ecological conservation and land acquisition are assessed in part second. 'Alternative' means of development is explored in part third by incorporating chapters on the constructed wetland, biofuels, subsistence economy, water and traditional knowledge practice. This interdisciplinary book is of immense significance to academicians, researchers, postgraduate and graduate-level students of social sciences and environmental studies; policymakers, development practitioners and NGOs working in the area of environment and development.
