Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah, better known by his pseudonym 'Hamka' (1908-1981) was an Indonesian scholar, thinker, religious activist, and novelist. This pamphlet is significant both as an early regional Medan imprint and as part of Hamka's lifelong engagement with the history of Islam in Indonesia, particularly in Sumatra.
