Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. THERE ARE NO TARIFFS OR CUSTOMS DUTIES ON BOOKS. A nice clean copy of this rare book very personal on the British Army in India by Major Gordon Casserly. The book covers are worn and faded, especially on the spine and corners, but this is commensurate with a book of this age. The pages are clean and crisp, but with some foxing. The book is profusely illustrated with black and white photographic images. There are no inscriptions etc or annotations in the text. In summary a good clean and original copy of this fascinating memoire.

"The fascination of a day's sport in the heart of the great forest is beyond words. Even if nothing falls to one's rifle the pleasure of roaming through the woodland is intense. Of the world nothing seems to exist farther than the eye can see down the short vistas of soft green light between the giant trees. Lulled by the swaying motion of the elephant - not unpleasant when used to it - one's senses are nevertheless keenly on the alert; for every stride may disclose some strange denizen of the jungle either to be sought after or guarded against. And the beauty of it all. The fern-carpeted glades, the drooping trails of bright-coloured orchids, the tangled shadows of the dense undergrowth, the glimpses of never-endling woodland between the great boles. And always the hust, the intense silence of this enchanted forest." - pages 98-9. [References: Czech "Asian Big Game Hunting Books)" p. 46: "Stationed at an outpost in the Terai, Casserly enjoyed all manner of sporting activities. To battle boredom, he hunted bear and goral in the jungle. He also provides insights into why elephants go rogue, details of a roundup, and hunts after elephants in the wild [. . .]"; Marshall "Britain and Tibet 1751: "Casserly was appointed Political Agent at Buxa Duar on the borders of Bhutan in the early 1900's.
