Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Dot and the Kangaroo, written originally in 1899, is a children's book by Ethel C. Pedley about a little girl named Dot who gets lost in the Australian outback and is eventually befriended by a kangaroo and several other marsupials. A young Australian girl named dot becomes lost in the Bush after chasing a hare into the wood and losing sight of her home and is rescued by a red kangaroo, who gives her some magic berries that allow her to speak with the animals and takes her on a wild adventure through the Outback. The story is impossibly charming, and you will love the way the author gave each animal a distinct personality based on its natural habits--the motherly kangaroo, the quirky kookaburra, the loquacious platypus, the loud and gossipy bower birds. Soft cover. Zustand: Good. An assiduous student's former Textbook with marginalia, highlighting and underlining throughout. Clean and tight though. "Demonstrating that globalization is a centuries-old phenomenon, From Silver to Cocaine examines the commodity chains that have connected producers in Latin America with consumers around the world for five hundred years. In clear, accessible essays, historians from Latin America, England, and the United States trace the paths of many of Latin America's most important exports: coffee, bananas, rubber, sugar, tobacco, silver, henequen (fiber), fertilizers, cacao, cocaine, indigo, and cochineal (insects used to make dye). Each contributor follows a specific commodity from its inception, through its development and transport, to its final destination in the hands of consumers. The essays are arranged in chronological order, according to when the production of a particular commodity became significant to Latin America's economy. Some—such as silver, sugar, and tobacco—were actively produced and traded in the sixteenth century; others—such as bananas and rubber—only at the end of the nineteenth century; and cocaine only in the twentieth. By focusing on changing patterns of production and consumption over time, the contributors reconstruct complex webs of relationships and economic processes, highlighting Latin America's central and interactive place in the world economy. They show how changes in coffee consumption habits, clothing fashions, drug usage, or tire technologies in Europe, Asia, and the Americas reverberate through Latin American commodity chains in profound ways. The social and economic outcomes of the continent's export experience have been mixed. By analyzing the dynamics of a wide range of commodities over a five-hundred-year period, From Silver to Cocaine highlights this diversity at the same time that it provides a basis for comparison and points to new ways of doing global history. Contributors. Marcelo Bucheli, Horacio Crespo, Zephyr Frank, Paul Gootenberg, Robert Greenhill, Mary Ann Mahony, Carlos Marichal, David McCreery, Rory Miller, Aldo Musacchio, Laura Nater, Ian Read, Mario Samper, Steven Topik, Allen Wells.".…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - With this book, Michael Mahony introduces his Trilogy on the Eucharist. His objectives in this present volume include exposing a wider Christian audience to the Framework and Theology of the Eucharist, and to the role which the Eucharist plays in God's plan to sustain the Church over time, not least in our present age of 'The Runaway Church'. At the same time, he challenges Catholic readers to take a fresh look at the much neglected Concluding Rites of the Eucharist, claiming that the link therein between the Eucharist and the Kerygma is central to achieving the purposes of the New Evangelization, particularly with regard to the laity's role in such evangelization. This is the fifth in a collection of seven books which are one ordinary person's exploration of the relationship between God and the human race, centered around the revelation of Jesus Christ who became One of Us in order that humanity could, in turn, share in the life within God.…

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. PATERSON, Andrew Barton 'Banjo' (collected & intro. Rosamund Campbell & Philippa Harvie; illus. Norman Lindsay, Lionel Lindsay, Frank Mahony, Neville Cayley, Edward Borein, W. Lister, W. Longstaff, V. Bowring, et al.). Complete Works: Singer of the Bush, 1885-1900 & Song of the Pen, 1901-1941. Sydney: Lansdowne Press, 1983. 2 vols. 4to. Both volumes bound in full brown calf. Housed together in matching brown calf solander case. Singer of the Bush: 723 pp; Song of the Pen: xxvi, 790 pp. Profusely illustrated throughout with black and white and colour plates, photographs, and line drawings, including works by Norman Lindsay, Lionel Lindsay, Frank Mahony, Neville Cayley, Edward Borein, W. Lister, W. Longstaff, and V. Bowring. Deluxe Commemorative Limited Edition. Limited to 350 numbered copies, this being number 289. Includes an original signed artwork entitled "The Homestead," signed by editors Rosamund Campbell and Philippa Harvie. Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson (1864-1941) is, by any reasonable measure, the most widely loved poet Australia has produced: the author of "Waltzing Matilda," Australia's unofficial national anthem, and of "The Man from Snowy River," a ballad so thoroughly absorbed into the national imagination that it has given its name to a mountain range, a film, and an entire register of Australian bush mythology. This Lansdowne edition, published in 1983, was the first occasion on which the entirety of Paterson's literary output; his poetry, short stories, novels, memoirs, journalism, children's stories, and wartime dispatches, was gathered into a single comprehensive edition. It remains the definitive and most complete edition of Paterson's work ever produced. The illustration programme draws on an extraordinary roster of significant Australian artists of Paterson's own era and after. The deluxe commemorative edition, of which this is number 289 of 350, distinguishes itself from the standard trade edition in both its construction and its contents. Both volumes are bound in full leather and housed in a beautiful solander case. It also includes an original artwork signed by the volumes' editors and compilers, Rosamund Campbell and Philippa Harvie, whose scholarly work assembling and introducing this edition made its publication possible. Fine throughout. Beautifully preserved and presents well. Please note: This is a large, heavy two-volume set. Additional postage costs may apply. If so, we will contact you after purchase.
