[8] unnumbered pages, including the covers, with several textual illustrations and a large double-page centerfold photograph of the artist working on his 1961 "Environment", "Yard". This unusual catalog is folded in half horizontally. There is some minor soiling with a few creases to the corners and edges, faint red stains to the bottom edge of the cover page and a tiny tear along the fold at the front edge of the pages. Very good. An unusual catalog for the exhibition "Allan Kaprow / 7 Environments" held at the Fondazione Mudima in Milan in 1991 and the Studio Morra in Naples in 1992. As per Kaprow's introductory text titled "Introduction to a Theory": "This exhibition (Fall 1991) at Fondazione Mudima in Milano and (Winter '92) at Studio Morra in Napoli, consists of reinventions of seven Environments made between 1957 and 1964. I say reinventions, rather than reconstructions, because the seven works differ markedly from their originals. Intentionally so. As I wrote in the notes to one of them, they were planned to change. This decision was the polar opposite of the belief that art should aspire to a penultimate steady state."The 7 "Environments" here described and depicted consist of "Beauty parlor (1957/58", "Apple Shrine (1960)", "Stockroom (1960)", "Yard (1961)", "Words (1962)", "Push and pull: (1963)" and "Eat (1964)"."Bull Shit is not an art magazine, nor simply a catalogue of an exhibition. It intends to offer documentation of 'special ' art-works on the part of 'special' contemporary artists." Ventidue anni dopo la fine dell'esperienza di «Alfabeta», Gino Di Maggio e Nanni Balestrini - con la collaborazione in redazione di Ilaria Bussoni, Andrea Cortellessa e Andrea Inglese - diedero vita a una nuova stagione dell'«ultima vera rivista di cultura del Novecento» - come si legge nell'editoriale di presentazione di «Alfabeta2» - in un tempo, ovvero il recentissimo 2010, vicino ma ormai profondamente distante da quel «secolo delle riviste e degli intellettuali». "Merci estinte" o forse "solo dormienti", Balestrini e Di Maggio decisero di scommettere ancora su "riviste" e "intellettuali", sulla loro forza critica e sulla loro capacità di essere «segnavento: segnalatori d'allarme e indicatori di nuove tendenze». E così, il primo numero del luglio-agosto 2010 affida la copertina a un'installazione di Kounellis del 2006 su cui campeggia il titolo del fascicolo «Intellettuali senza», accompagnato dai nomi di Umberto Eco, Andrea Cortellessa, Andrea Inglese, Augusto Illuminati. All'interno vecchi e nuovi amici a dare il bentornato ad «Alfabeta» con contributi sul senso dell'impegno culturale e politico e a salutare, in chiusura, Edoardo Sanguineti, scomparso nel maggio di quell'anno. Attiva in formato cartaceo fino alla primavera del 2014 con numeri speciali allegati ai fascicoli - da segnalare il supplemento all'uscita 33 del novembre-dicembre 2013 dal titolo «Alfa63. Cinquant'anni dopo», ovviamente dedicato ai cinquant'anni del Gruppo 63 -, dopo il numero 35 «Alfabeta2» proseguì le pubblicazione solo come "quotidiano in rete", giungendo a una chiusura definitiva con la morte di Balestrini, avvenuta nel maggio 2019. 48,5 x 30,5 cm, giornale autocopertinato, numero di pagine variabile, inserti con numeri speciali allegati ai fascicoli. La Quinzaine littéraire» dedicato al Futurismo. Nel 1979 la casa editrice milanese Multhipla diretta da Gino Di Maggio decise di riprendere l'esperienza del periodico « - beta. Laboratorio di critica delle arti visive, di storia dell'arte e » - terminata nel marzo del 1976 dopo soli otto numeri - dando vita ad «Alfabeta. Mensile di informazione culturale». Rispetto alla rivista originaria, più strettamente legata all'ambito artistico, la nuova serie fu da subito caratterizzata da interessi culturali più ampi dichiarati dello stesso sottotitolo «Mensile di informazione culturale» -, con il campo politico ad affiancare e integrare stabilmente quello letterario. Animatori del progetto furono, oltre allo stesso Di Maggio e a Gianni Sassi nella vesta di art director, Nanni Balestrini, Umberto Eco, Paolo Volponi, Antonio Porta, Maria Corti, Francesco Leonetti, Pier Aldo Rovatti e Mario Spinella. Più avanti, il comitato di redazione includerà anche Omar Calabrese, Carlo Formenti, Vincenzo Bonazza, Marisa Giuffra, Nino Trombetta e Maurizio Ferraris. Volontà di Nanni Balestrini che a ragione può essere considerato come una delle figure fondamentali della rivista, se non la più importante era quella di creare un gruppo eterogeneo per interessi culturali e posizionamenti politici così da cogliere, analizzare e restituire criticamente e nel modo più completo possibile i mutamenti in atto e i movimenti emergenti. Seppur nelle cercate differenze, scopo di Balestrini era quello di generare un fronte comune contro la crisi e il ritiro dalla scena pubblica degli intellettuali venuto dopo la stagione del fermento culturale e delle lotte. Una sfida importante, controcorrente in quel tempo gli anni Ottanta segnati dal disimpegno politico, che «Alfabeta» rilancerà per 114 numeri, terminando la propria avventura nel 1988. Nel 2010, Balestrini e Di Maggio cercheranno di recuperare il senso di quell'avventura tanto importante fondando «Alfabeta 2 - mensile di intervento culturale». in folio, fascicoli autocopertinati, pp. 16., con illustrazioni in bianco e nero e a colori.
