En el ámbito penal y penitenciario, esto se ha traducido en la combinación de, por un lado, un endurecimiento cada… vez mayor de las penas y de las condiciones de su determinación y ejecución, y, por el otro, la adopción de mecanismos premiales que pretenden fomentar la desvinculación de la banda terrorista y la colaboración con las autoridades. Se trata de un binomio que aparece en España, así como en otros ordenamientos jurídicos que han lidiado con fenómenos especialmente intensos de delincuencia terrorista, como Italia e Irlanda del Norte. El libro ofrece un análisis comparado de estas experiencias, en las cuales se detecta, además, otro rasgo en común: a saber, la aplicación de mecanismos de Justicia restaurativa, durante o después de la ejecución de la pena, convirtiendo así la que parece una ?utopía? en una realidad complementaria a la realidad penitenciaria y punitiva clásica. A raíz de las sugerencias ofrecidas por estas tres experiencias, el libro plantea la posibilidad de valorar la participación en encuentros restaurativos de cara a la situación y evolución penitenciaria de los terroristas condenados: algo que en España parece un tabú intocable, pero que la autora considera una propuesta viable, bajo dos posibles puntos de anclaje. Por último, se comparten algunas reflexiones sobre la viabilidad de ampliar esta ?utopía? restaurativa (que ya se ha convertido una realidad) a los condenados por terrorismo yihadista, tomando en cuenta no solamente las diferencias fenomenológicas respecto de otros terrorismos, sino también los rasgos específicos de las condenas dictadas por los tribunales españoles en este marco. La conclusión es que la Justicia restaurativa, aplicada en casos de delitos terroristas como complemento a la respuesta punitiva, es una herramienta muy valiosa no solamente para satisfacer las necesidades de las víctimas, sino también para favorecer la reinserción social de los condenados y para contribuir a la reconstrucción del tejido social tan gravemente vulnerado por estos fenómenos violentos. Elena Maculan es Profesora titular de Derecho penal en la UNED, donde desempeña en la actualidad el cargo de Secretaria General de la Universidad. Es Doctora en Estudios Jurídicos Comparados y Europeos por la Universidad de Trento (Italia) y en Paz y Seguridad Internacional por la UNED (España), en régimen de cotutela, con mención de Doctor Europeo y Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado en ambas Universidades. Cuenta con numerosas publicaciones en prestigiosas revistas y editoriales españolas y extranjeras, y con colaboraciones y estancias en Universidades británicas, alemanas e italianas. It will be divided into three parts: Theory, Methods and Applications. Each part will contain at least one survey and several…research papers. The first part, Theory, will deal with theoretical aspects of the DGP, including a new class of problems and the study of its complexities as well as the relation between DGP and other related topics, such as: distance matrix theory, Euclidean distance matrix completion problem, multispherical structure of distance matrices, distance geometry and geometric algebra, algebraic distance geometry theory, visualization of K-dimensional structures in the plane, graph rigidity, and theory of discretizable DGP: symmetry and complexity. The second part, Methods, will discuss mathematical and computational properties of methods developed to the problems considered in the first chapter including continuous methods (based on Gaussian and hyperbolic smoothing, difference of convex functions, semidefinite programming, branch-and-bound), discrete methods (based on branch-and-prune, geometric build-up, graph rigidity), and also heuristics methods (based on simulated annealing, genetic algorithms, tabu search, variable neighborhood search). Applications will comprise the third part and will consider applications of DGP to NMR structure calculation, rational drug design, molecular dynamics simulations, graph drawing and sensor network localization. This volume will be the first edited book on distance geometry and applications. The editors are in correspondence with the major contributors to the field of distance geometry, including important research centers in molecular biology such as Institut Pasteur in Paris.
