Hardcover. Zustand: Good. First Edition. A perfectly serviceable reference copy; nothing fancy, but complete and sturdy, bound in blue cloth, soiled a bit and sunned along edges, moderate foxing throughout, but clean and unmarked. Previous owner's inscription, neatly rendered, Peter Morris Green, 1944. From the personal library of the noted English historian of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, Professor Peter Morris Green, now of Iowa City, Iowa, 99 years old, nearly blind, but still working, in this case on a new translation and with annotations, of Herodotus, his favorite historian. MacNeice writes a lengthy Introduction to Christopher Columbus where he essays a growing trend in radio-dramatic writing and concludes that "the first virtue of a radio script is construction," and that "the radio writer must live on a more or less primitive plane." What the radio writer must do, he concludes, "if he hopes to win the freedom of the air, is to appeal on one plane-whatever he may be doing on the others-to the more primitive listener and to the more primitive elements in anyone; i.e. he must give them (what Shakespeare gave them) entertainment." 92 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
