In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. First Edition. Hardback. First Edition. Previous owners name to inside cover. Wear and tear to D/J. This monumental work is an attempt by two leading ornithologists to give to others the book they themselves wanted when they first visited and lived in Africa. Much skilled research has gone into the making of it: a period of more than twenty years was required to compile the material, and the scientific and systematic side of the work has been published in various ornithological journals. The African Handbook of Birds is a reference book, but it is primarily intended for use in the field. It has been welcomed not only by the specialist but also by those who want clear and concise information about the birds of Africa. Series II covers the southern part of Portuguese East Africa, Western Nyasaland, both Rhodesias and the whole of the rest of Southern Africa, south of the Congo watershed. Series II, Volume I comprises the families from ostriches to Wagtails, and the rest of the families will be covered by Volume II which will be published shortly. Almost all the birds are figured in colour except for a few families for which colour is not necessary and these are covered by marginal drawings in black and white. As in Series I all species, in fact, all recognised races of species. have marginal maps of their distribution as well as a large number of marginal drawings. The same procedure as regards the text also followed and original references, general and local distribution, habitat and habits, nest, eggs and known breeding season, food and call are given under their respective headings. Captaom C. H. B. Grant died in 1958, but he had by then practically completed his side of the work and, in fact, done much towards the groundwork of Series II, the West African Series, which it is hoped to produce as soon as this Series finished. Illustrated. 688 pp. Plastic protective covering around D/J. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
