Cloth. Zustand: Good. None (illustrator). First edition. A complete three volume set of this history of the Weald of Kent from English scholar Robert Furley. Complete in three volumes. First edition. A detailed history of Kent with volume one containing reference to the Roman invasion, the settlement of the Saxons, Ethelbert to Egbert, Alfred the Great, and the Norman invasion. Volume two part one continues with the reign of Henry II, Edward I, and into the fourteenth century. Volume two part two concludes with Henry VIII, the rising of the Kentish Royalists, and iron works. Volume one is illustrated with three folding plates. Volume two part one is illustrated with two folding plates. Volume two part two is illustrated with one folding plate. Collated complete. Written by Robert Furley, an English scholar and historian. With a sketch of the physical features of the district by Henry B. Mackeson, a British geologist. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with the odd mark to the boards. Front hinge tender to volume one with the rear hinge starting but firm. Joints starting but firm to the other volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot. Light age toning to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Good. book.

Boards rubbed, inner hinges strengthened with cloth tape, foxing to the endpapers and the maps, tape repair to one of the maps. Overall, this set is in good plus condition. Author's presentation copies, with a short inscription from the author in each volume.

INSCRIBED 'A. Beattie Esq. | with the author's compliments' in black ink to title page of first volume. Publisher's handsome green cloth with gilt titles to spine, black tooling, and gilt motifs to the upper boards. Brown-coated endpapers. All edges untrimmed. Gently toned throughout, with some repairs to folding maps, otherwise internally clean. Third volume recently re-cased, with some minor repair to spine cloth; otherwise moderate general wear to cloth. Very good. Signed.

Large fold-out maps throughout the volumes. Rebacked preserving the original spines and new corners which has now made the set very stout when handling them, without any of the usual foxing, new end papers. Large fold-out maps throughout the volumes with two maps to volume I having a tear to one section, gatherings of volume II Part 2 are slightly exposed, spines not faded and with only minor bumps to the extremities, sporadic light foxing to some margins and a Very Good neat and tidy set.
