In den WarenkorbHardback. Zustand: Very Good. Third Edition. 1896. Third edition. xx, 152pp., frontispiece portrait of Flora Macdonald, and an 8-page catalogue at the end of the book. Rev. Alexander MacGregor (1806-1881) was a minister of the Established Church in Kilmuir, Skye, in Edinburgh, and latterly in Inverness. Along with the Rev. Dr. Norman MacLeod he was one of the most prolific writers of Gaelic prose in the nineteenth century. This book is his account of the life of Flora MacDonald (1722-1790), a member of the minor gentry from the Outer Hebrides who is probably best known for helping Charles Edward Stuart evade government troops after the Battle of Culloden in April 1746. This edition includes a life of the author together with an appendix containing details of Flora Macdonald's descendents. The Scotsman newspaper described the work as "The first complete and authentic account of Flora Macdonald's life, and her memorable achievement in contriving the escape of Charles Edward, that has yet been written." The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling to the boards and light bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with some light foxing to the half-title page and last page of the catalogue together with some foxing on the fore edge of the text block. The endpapers are browned and a name has been written on the front fixed endpaper.
