Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. MacGregor A.J (illustrator). Loughborough Wills & Hepworth Ltd. ,Ladybird series 401, 180 x 115 mm, 7 x 4½ inches. Dated as 1971 due to the price of 2/6 121/2p which was usual in this year. Reprint. Tally number of 260 titles suggests 1970/71 date. and all titles in the series are shown on the rear list. Matt illustrated boards with black titles to the spine. The endpapers have closed wing ladybirds and there is an illustration in black and white on the title page. The book is complete and holding its binding. Spine ends are a little rubbed. Clean contents; no inscriptions or scribbles. The boards are a little grubby. the upper board shows the older style of small boxed illustration. This 401 series was the first to be published and this the first title in 1940. Delightful full page coloured illustrations and line drawings on all pages of text. A family of little dressed rabbits, On the way home, Whiskers the baby gets tired, falls asleep under a tree, and once found, has to be carried home. Somewhat unusually, there appears to be printing errors as four of the illustrations are in light water colour with no text to the verso. Very tiny bump at head of spine, lower corners very slightly worn, inscription on front endpaper, contents very nice. Very good plus (lacking dustwrapper). Full-page colour illustrations throughout. A little bump to the bottom corner and spine ends. Open winged ladybird device and first published on reverse of ffep at the upper portion of page May 1948. Gift inscription on the ffep dated 1948. Very Good. Dustjacket is unfortunately clipped and has a narrow 1in portion of loss to the rear at bottom of spine. It is also rubbed at the extremities but this is fairly minor. Rear Flap lists The Runaway as the last book in series but this was also published in 1948. Overall Very Good - From the series 401; one of the later titles in the set.
