Deluxe edition of this splendid monograph on Sir Henry Raeburn (1756-1823), a renown Scottish portrait painter and Scotland's first significant portrait painter since the Union to remain based in Scotland. Raeburn's notoriety was such that he served as portrait painter to King George IV. The text volume contains several in-text reproductions of the artist's work, as well as a detailed biographical and descriptive catalogue by John L. Caw. Its companion volume is a striking portfolio of 66 plates printed on India paper. The mounts for the plates measure 15 x 11.4" (38cm x 29cm); the printed images themselves vary in size, but are typically about 7.5 x 6" (19cm by 15cm). Each of the 66 plates is tissue-guarded. Binding and portfolio are both partly rubbed along edges. Closed tear at upper back joint of portfolio. Binding and portfolio in overall good- to good, interior in very good condition.
