Hand-colored lithograph, a monumental chronographic chart issued on eight horizontal sheets, each approximately 20 x 45 inches each, with minor variations in size. If joined, the chart extends to nearly 35 feet in length. A spectacular visual history of the world, the chart presents a graphic representation of time from antiquity to the nineteenth century. Organized into 500-year divisions, it traces the rise and fall of civilizations, kingdoms, empires, and notable historical events across an expansive continuous timeline. An explanatory key identifies the symbols and conventions employed throughout, and both ancient and modern place names are included. Likely intended to be mounted on rollers, varnished, and backed with cloth, the chart was designed for display in a parlor or library, reflecting the nineteenth century fascination with educational wall charts and panoramic visual aids. Condition: some wear along folds, fraying, misfolds with scattered toning and foxing but overall very good. Linen-backed as issued. Azel Storrs Lyman (1815 - ?) was an American inventor and silversmith known for producing educational and mechanical works during the mid-nineteenth century.
