A generally VG+ clean tightly bound copy with just a few light marks and a little dulled on spine. The first edition of this vibrantly illustrated Victorian travel guide and celebration of the Lochs of Scotland. Presentation Copy awarded to Miss J. Patrick by James Macdonald (Headmaster of Kelvinside Academy and later HM Inspector of Schools), with neat presentation label to upper pastedown and fine circular pictorial gilt stamp of Kelvinside Academy to bottom of rear cover. Collated, complete.These delightful plates are accompanied by descriptions from British historian and author Thomas Allan Croal, who authored a number of works on Scottish history and Mary, Queen of Scots. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with discolouration to spine and perimeters of rear board. Hinges strained, and a touch tender. Internally, binding significantly strained throughout. Two plates and one leaf detached and loosely inserted. Handling marks and spotting throughout, with pages bright. Good. book.

A very good copy in a decorative Victorian binding of green cloth with bevelled edges to the boards extensive gilt to the spine and front board, cloth and corners a little bumped. Contents tight, all edges gilt, generally clean with some light foxing marks to page edges, plates remain clean with tissue guards in place. With a exlibris (Thomas Hatley Macfie). A very good copy. Two vintage studio still photographs from the 1940 film. With a provenance stamp on the verso and blind stamp at the bottom right corner relating to its censure in Denmark. Based on the 1857 novel by Thomas Hughes. A man takes a new job as a headmaster at Rugby School, where the students are notoriously difficult. Set in England. 8 x 10 inches. Good, with pin holes at the corners and one photograph with a small chip missing from the bottom left corner.
