A first edition of these two scarce short stories by German music critic and poet, Ludwig Rellstab. Published in German. Having established his career as a music critic, Rellstab made his debut as a writer in 1826 with his novel Henriette. Henriette and with his later satire of composer Gaspare Spontini earned Rellstab brief stints in jail. With an institutional stamp to the verso of the front endpaper to both volumes. From the Osborne Library. The present collection only has two of three volumes. In a quarter calf binding over patterned boards. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards and the extremities. A little rubbed to the spine and the joints, more so to volume II, which is missing a tiny bit of calf to the head of the spine. The front hinge is starting but firm to both volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot. Very Good. book.
