In den WarenkorbFith Edition, revised by L.J. Rubinstein. - London, Melbourne, Auckland, 1991, gr.8°, XIII, 1012 pp., zahlr. Abbildungen und 4 farb. Tafeln mit 36 Fig., orig. Leinenband, mit Schutzumschlag. "The past decade has seen many new advances in basic, experimental and clinical neurooncology. These have necessitated a considerable recasting of this book, and much of it has been rewritten as well as updated. While the traditional descriptions of gross and microscopical appearances elicited by the classic methods, as well as the accounts on the growth, spread and metastatic behaviour of neural tumours, have of course been retained, much new material has been incorporated. The antigenic and biochemical modulations of normal and neoplastic cell lines, the heterotransplantation of human tumours and their lines to athymie mice, and the data currently accumulating on cell kinetics and cytogenetics have all added to our knowledge of neural tumour biology. In particular, the diagnostic contributions of immunohistochemistry have been most important and needed to be systematically indicated as well as critically assessed in the context of other morphological evidence. Novel or more strictly defined entities, such as the pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma, central neurocytoma, cerebellar neuroblastoma, trilateral retinoblastoma, intrasellar gangliocytoma, meningeal melanocytoma, desmoplastic infantile ganglioglioma, the oncocytic type of choroid plexus papilloma, the paraganglioma of the cauda equina, the sarcoglioma, the neurothekeoma, and new variants or atypical features of glioblastomas and meningiomas, have all appeared on the scene. Our understanding of pituitary adenomas, cerebral lymphomas and neuroendocrine tumours and of the genetics of retinoiastoma has increased significantly. This edition aims at reflecting these advances. ." Preface to the Fifth Edition Dorothy Stuart Russell (1895-1983) Australian born, British pathologist. She was a director of the Bernhard Baron Institute of Pathology. Lucien Jules Rubinstein (1924-1990).…
