Catalogue Note: This rare commemorative unit history was privately printed for the regiment in Germany immediately following the cessation of hostilities in Europe. It chronicles the extensive wartime service and movements of the 59th (4th West Lancashire) Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery, from mobilisation in 1939 through the harrowing campaigns in Western Europe up to victory in 1945. The volume is profusely illustrated with black-and-white photographic plates depicting operational scenes, equipment, and personnel, alongside maps and a striking colour plate of tactical formation signs. Most notably, the work includes a comprehensive and exhaustive Roll of Honour, details of decorations and awards, and a full roll of members complete with ranks, service numbers, and home addresses, making it an invaluable primary source for military historians and family genealogists alike. Privately published in Hamburg in 1945 for members of the regiment, this scarce commemorative history records the wartime journey of the 59th (4th West Lancashire) Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery.
