With regard to the marriage referred to I am assured that this is not contemplated [inaccurate!] & that the reports are unauthorised. | 2. Lady Hennessy's mother was the daughter of MrW. Napier, Lieut Governor of Labuan and was married to me in St Andrews Church in Singapore on the 12th Augt 1848 by the Revd C. Hannen, Chaplain to H.M.S. Maeander [see Note c.], in the presence of the late Sir James Brooke [the White Rajah] - the gentleman [.] whom I [may?] mention the present Rajah of Sarawak, And the Hnble Sir H. This very rare was book written by Her Majesty's Commission- er in Borneao, Rajah of Sarawak, Governor of Labuh-an. It is the personal narrative of some 30 months residence and the West coast of Boreno. His object was to make a collection of plants and seeds, study the tribes of aborigines. Brooke saw more of these tribes than any other Englishman or Europ- ean who visited those shores. A valuable history of the flo- ra and fauna, ethnology of the people, the land & life style of the Dyaks & Kykans. Of monkeys, orang utan, panther, reptiles, domestic fowls & animals. The Malays, aborigines, Dutch, English settlements,Muller's expedition,slave debtors Arab descendants. Piracy, opium smoking, exports, manners of women, price of a wife. Sea-Dyaks, tribes of, language, lack of manners, cookery, their women, head hunting. Hill-Dyaks, "Taboo," Land-Dyaks, bridges, marriage, head-taking. Kyans- their foes the Dyaks.
