An incredible transatlantic assemblage (a "North Atlantic turn-on," per the co…ver), beginning with 26 pages of compositions from Ginsberg's journals ("Ankor-Wat"), and including, along with the more familiar names listed above, such interesting and under-attended writers as Paul Ableman, Christopher Perret, and musician Archie Shepp. Per the editor's prefatory notes, Ginsberg "declined payment for ëAnkor Wat' and his money has been divided between the other contributors." There appears to have been no second issue of Long Hair proper, which was succeeded by Long Hair Times (also one issue? which included issues of The Gate, published by the London Free School, and Ed Sanders Newsletter), and eventually the International Times.Worth the price of admission for the ads, contributors' notes, and breathless insurrectionary editorial alone.

Buffalo, [Cherry Valley], New York State and elsewhere, n.d, first 5 examples c.1970-1972. £350.00 Gauffered-edge examples…are a bit curled, all but two, with some small loss on bottom of image from damp, very good to near fine overall. The two most important images from this group depict Ginsberg perched on the desk of a science lab classroom, with formulae chalked on the blackboard behind him and his harmonium in hand. The third is a group photograph, sans Ginsberg, but probably from the same event as it includes Ray Bremser, Mary Beach, Claude Pelieu and possibly Gordon Ball. The fourth, depicts Ginsberg in the fields of Cherry Valley farm, possibly with Denise Felieu and Peter Orlovsky and another figure, possibly Gordon Ball again, in the distance. The fifth is a head and shoulders portrait of British academic Eric Mottram who wrote The Algebra of Need , the first proper UK book on Burroughs' work. A note for a recording of the event, from Allen De Loach's Intrepid Collection at SUNYAB, says that Gregory Corso introduced the reading with 'How fitting it is for me to introduce to you our poet tonight. We first met twenty years ago in a tiny Greenwich Village Bar called the Pony Stable'. Then a selection from William Blake's Songs of Innocence and Experience was played, accompanied by the harmonium, Ginsberg poems were also read, mantras were chanted and an audio message from Timothy Leary, on the run, was played. Morgan, normally very thorough, seems to miss this event from his exhaustive biography. The cropped image is of Ginsberg and two other figures staring at what is possibly Niagara Falls. Lastly, the colour photo depicts him in dungarees, again with harmonium on his knee with students, also from the same period. The last is an image of him in public with the characteristic short ?academic' beard that he wore in the eighties. 218608.
