Softcover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. 66 pages (complete). A confident even, at times, cocky copy. This edition was published in aid of the Buxton Hostels (student residences) in Pretoria. The thick paper covers are worn and marked and scuffed. Yet, they are affable and sure. The cover has a previous owner signature. Within, the early advertising pages are foxed. The contents themselves are most happily benevolent. They are thick, clear, occasionally marked near the edges by age, clean, generous and barely aged. A pleasing, contented and competent copy. fk. In den WarenkorbSecond edition; 2 vols in 1, 8vo, (21.5 x 14.5 cm); 3 maps (2 folding, laid on fine linen), small tear to hinge of first map repaired; handsome modern half calf, marbled boards, flat spine lettered in gilt, a very good copy; viii, 347; 323 pp. Lloyd and Gerard's Narrative contains some of the earliest surveys of the Himalayan Mountains. Sir William Lloyd, a Welsh country gentleman, who had been a major in the Hon. East India Company's Bengal infantry and an Indian surveyor, brought out this book, under the editorship of his son, George Lloyd. This collective travel narrative describes the exploration of several Himalayan passes in 1822. Lloyd's narrative focuses on the ascent of the Boorendo Pass. J. G. Gerard's account examines the determination of the permanent snow line in the Himalayas, while his brother, Alexander investigated the availability and possible passage of a series of Himalayan passes. Lloyd's passage through Simla was one of the earliest by an Englishman. Riddick, 137; Yakushi L238.
