Contains "The Fifteen Dollar Eagle" by Sylvia Plath. For full contents please see photo scans. ***Very good in blue and white card covers. The covers are clean and unmarked…, but there is some surface loss at the top of the spine and a small loss at the top outer corner of the front cover. (Please see scans). Edges of covers slightly rubbed and creased. No bumps or creases. Corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. Spine flat but with light vertical reading creases. No fading. Internally also very good with no previous ownership inscriptions or annotations. Pages clean but paper stock tanned as usual. Inner covers browned. ***144 pages including two pages of Biographical Notes and a single page advert at the back. 180mm x 110mm. Penguin Modern Stories appeared in a series of twelve volumes between 1969 and 1972. 'This volume is the second in a quarterly series designed to bring new short stories by both well-known and exciting new writers to the wide public they deserve. Volume 1 contains stories by William Sansom, Jean Rhys, David Plante, and Bernard Malamud.' The covers are exceptionally clean, even the white back cover. Light creasing to the bottom corner tips of the last few pages. Slight splitting to the paper at the top of the spine. Staples rusted as usual. Internally also near fine - pages clean with hardly any of the usual foxing. A few marks and light creases - mainly production creasing as very thin paper was used (wartime paper restrictions were in force). No tears. The centre-spread of illustrations is printed on higher quality cartridge paper.
