These significant guests were in attendance at the dinner party offered by Charles Douglas Jackson and his wife Grace Bristed Jackson at the prestigious "Dakota" apartment house in New York City. Near fine.Following are those guests whose autographs we were able to identify:1. Stephen Carlton Clark (1882-1960) was the American art collector, businessman, newspaper publisher and philanthropist who founded the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.2. Prince Aschwin of Lippe-Biesterfeld (Ashwin de Lippe, 1914-1988) was an expert in Chinese painting and Indian sculpture, and curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.3. Simone de Lippe, the Prince's wife.4. Eileen Lanouette Hughes (1925-1998), an international correspondent for Life Magazine who married Life Magazine editor Emmet John Hughes.5. John Brownlee (1900-1969), an Australian operatic baritone who spent most of his career in Europe before moving to the United States.6. Carla Brownlee, the operatic baritone's wife.7. Georg Achates Gripenberg (1890-1975), Finland's first Ambassador to the United Nations, he had previously served as Finland's Envoy to London and then Stockholm.8. Peggy Gripenberg, was the ambassador's wife.9. Lydia Chapin Kirk (c.1896-1984). The wife of Admiral Alan G. Kirk. She authored three suspense novels and accompanied her husband when he served as Ambassador to Belgium, the Soviet Union, and to Taiwan. She published a collection of letters to her children titled "Postmarked Moscow: An American Ambassador's Wife Looks at Life in Russia Today".10. Unidentifiable signature.11. Admiral Alan Goodrich Kirk (1888-1963) was the U.S. senior naval commander during the Normandy landings in WWII. He subsequently served as the U.S. Ambassador to Belgium, the Soviet Union and the Republic of China (Tawain).12. Unidentifiable signature.13. Carl W.A. Schurmann (1903-1994). Dutch representative at the United Nations and Ambassador to Washington. He played a crucial role in the U.N. resolutions on nuclear disarmament.14. Unidentifiable signature.15. Lewis Galantiere (1895-1977). American man of letters, translator, and government official who is remembered for his friendship with the "Lost Generation" of American expatriate authors living in Paris.Charles Douglas Jackson [known as "C.D."] and his wife Grace Bristed Jackson hosted parties and events at their apartment in the Dakota. Jackson worked on and off at Time magazine in an administrative capacity for many years and was made vice president of Time, Inc. in 1940. He was periodically sent on various diplomatic missions by Eisenhower. He also found time to serve on the boards of several organizations, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Free Europe Committee and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.…
