Before joining the faculty there, she obtained a B.A. degree with honors in Classics at Indiana University and earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Michigan. She served as President of the Classical Association of the Middle West and South in 1996-97. Dettmer served as chair of the Department of Classics from 1993 to 2001, as interim chair of the Department of French and Italian from 1998 to 1999, as founding Director of the Division of Interdisciplinary Programs from 2001 to 2005, and currently is serving as Associate Dean of Academic Programs and Services in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She is the author of Love by the Numbers: Form and Meaning in the Poetry of Catullus (1997) and Horace: A Study in Structure (1983). - Marcia Lindgren earned a baccalaureate degree with honors from Southern Connecticut State University. She went on to graduate study in Classics at the University of Iowa, where she received her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. In addition to teaching at Iowa, she served for ten years as an assistant to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
