Maguindanaon Bayuk Transcription, Translation, and Annotation is a most welcome addition to what is evolving in Mindanao, namely an increasingly varied collection of original materials about Mindanao written by a Mindanawon. This is a book of stories. Storytelling is a favorite pastime for peoples in all cultural contexts around the world, told in the people's mother tongue and in styles unique to their indigenous roots. 'mBayuka Tanu! is a collection of the unique Maguindanaon style of storytelling known as bayuk, the prominent example of Maguindanaon folk speech which refers to lyric poetry, proverbs, and aphorisms as well as chant which is syllabic and tetrachordal. However, this book is not just an anthology of 13 stories, but the author-translator does the reader, who is a non-Maguindanaoan, a big favor through his efforts at transcription, translation, and annotation. Not only are the stories now accessible to readers in English, but they can better be appreciated as their background stories, or their context are also provided. Thus, the book's bayuk translation may be considered its 'flesh' while the story behind or its context may be its 'soul'.'--Karl M. Gaspar CSsR>'In the constant assertion of our Bangsamoro identity, history and cultural heritage play a central role. For, our history and cultural heritage, underpinned by our Islamic faith, attest to the nationhood of the Bangsamoro that makes it sui generis in the Philippine state setting. In this regard, Dr. Mansoor Limba's written work on Maguindanao bayuk merits not only our profound appreciation because such a work allows us to 'rediscover' in nostalgic context a wonderful tradition that bespeaks the richness of our cultural heritage, but also enthralls us with the inimitable artistic skills our ancestors communicated their stories by word of mouth in measured rhythmic tempo that have become an integral part of our indigenous traditional oral literature. As such, Dr. Limba's book, 'mBayuka Tanu, is truly a wonderful work of scholarship in the service of the Bangsamoro. It should serve as an inspiration to other Moro scholars.'--Robert Maulana M. AlontoChair, Committee for Writing Bangsamoro HistoryCommission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage>'Congratulations to Mansoor for this great work of preserving the bayuk of the Magindanaw! We need more people who will collect and publish the limitless oral lore of our people.'--Macario D. Neuware - Labbayk: A Pilgrimage Memoir - Answering the Call, Returning to the Heart is not just a travelogue of a sacred journey-it is a chronicle of yearning, delay, surrender, and eventual transformation. Spanning decades of whispered vows, postponed plans, and quiet heartbreaks, this deeply personal narrative walks us through one family's long-awaited Hajj: a father past his prime, a mother with quiet strength, and a daughter whose tears turned a two-person journey into a sacred trio. Through vivid reflections, Qur'anic echoes, and prophetic whispers, Mansoor Limba invites readers into a soul's unfolding. From the scroll of a Facebook feed to the sacred silence of 'Arafah, from the everyday struggles of health and finances to the majestic awe of standing before the Ka'bah, each chapter pulses with longing, trust, and the quiet miracles of Divine timing. This book is not a guide to the rituals of Hajj-it is a guide to the heart's readiness to respond. Whether you've already performed the pilgrimage, are waiting for your turn, or are standing at the edge of spiritual lethargy, Labbayk: A Pilgrimage Memoir is your gentle summons. It's a love letter to the delays that deepen our du'a, to the call that never stops echoing, and to the sacred courage it takes to finally say: 'Here I am, O Lord. Here I am.' Using his signature style of applying traditional Islamic sources to contemporary questions, the author presented this Islamic perspective on the philosophy of ethics by continuously engaging with the views of a wide range of philosophers including Epicurus, Plato, Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Kant, Russell, Nietzsche, Marx, Dostoyevsky, Maeterlinck, Gustave Le Bon, Sartre, and Toynbee. Mutahhari's philosophical discussion covers such issues as the what-ness of ethics, natural action and moral action, theory of emotionalism, conscience theory, Islamic ethics and morality, self and non-self, knowledge of the self, and the spiritual and moral crises in the present age. He also examines questions on the criterion for moral action, the 'self' in ethics, and Russell's and Marxist theories on morality.Murtada Mutahhari was a leading theoretician of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran. As an accomplished scholar of Islamic sciences, he played a pivotal role in forming the modern Islamic discourse which served as the foundation of the revolution. With close to ninety works to his credit, he is considered one of the leading thinkers of the global Islamic movement in the twentieth century.Table of ContentsTranslator's ForewordAbout the AuthorPrefacePart OneChapter 1: What is Ethics Chapter 2: Natural Action and Moral ActionChapter 3: Theory of Emotionalism and the Muslim Philosophers' TheoryChapter 4: Conscience TheoryChapter 5: Theory of BeautyChapter 6: Theory on WorshipChapter 7: Islamic Ethics and MoralityChapter 8: Self and Non-selfChapter 9: Knowledge of the SelfChapter 10: Spiritual and Moral Crises in the Present AgePart TwoChapter 11: The Criterion for Moral ActionChapter 12: Communist Morality and Russell's School of MoralityChapter 13: Question of the 'Self' in Ethics.…
