Preface written by Patterson dated August 1909. Bound in original blue publisher's cloth with a gilt embossed emblem of a camel and native on upper cover, bright gilt lettering to spine, top edge gilt. Toning to the front and rear free end-papers, otherwise contents clean with no markings. Other than a couple of very small marks on both upper and lower covers the binding is in excellent condition showing very little wear. Patterson details his 'trials and adventures' on two expeditions through the 'nyika', or wilderness in British East Africa and the first chapter is entitled 'Tsavo Revisited' . An extremely good copy and a companion volume to the Man-Eaters of Tsavo. size: 8vo.

With Illustrations; frontisp…iece, (b.w. photograph of heads of 8 lions shot by author, with tissue guard), numerous monochrome photographs throughout, some full page, map of British East Africa. pp. xx + 338 + map. Lt. Col. Patterson was a British Cavalry officer, hunter and author and he details his experiences during the construction of a railway bridge over the River Tsavo in the East Africa Protecturate in 1898. He describes attacks by two man-eating lions on workers building the Uganda Railway and how he managed to kill them. Other stories concern local wildlife, local tribes and various hunting expeditions. A final appendix contains advice to sportsmen visiting British East Africa. In publisher's original blue cloth, with a gilt embossed emblem of a lion's head on upper cover, bright gilt lettering to spine, top edge gilt. Previous owners' signatures in pencil on front free end paper, contents clean and unmarked, slight weakening between the gatherings but generally firm overall, some small marks to upper cover and a very small split at bottom edge of spine. A very pleasing copy of this important book. Size: 8vo.
