Greer. Printed in a limited edition of 1,600 numbered copies, it is an elegant example of late twentieth-century book design and craftsmanship. The Sermon on The Mount. A handsome edition - with book housed in a plain black slipcase, and the covers protected with the original glassine wrap - now torn and open at the spine (these are more commonly absent altogether). The book itself is in near fine condition. With black leather spine and gilt title to spine and attractive decorative papers over boards. The spine covering is worn at the tail and there are some pinholes along the vertical edges of the spine joints. The interior of the book is immaculate; text is in lovely condition and printed in red and black - clean and bright throughout, with gilt top edge. Slipcase with some light wear and a some small markings to the black paper in places. Text in English.  (iv) + 87pp + (1) limitation page. The text is handset in Original Janson Antiqua. This is the first use both of a paper made specially for The Florin Press at Biddenden by Barcham Green, and of the device engraved by Simon Brett. Rare signed lifetime impressions, in original paper portfolio with engraving title label.Similar to the larger quantity edition described in OCLC Number / Unique Identifier:1336617921.Leo Wyatt (1909-1981) was a British engraver, letterer, and designer, known for his calligraphy-based wood engravings. He moved from a career designing printed matter and engraving for the printing trade to artistic wood engraving later in life. Influenced by Beatrice Warde, Reynolds Stone and Paul Standard. Wyatt's work often featured alphabets and aphorisms, and he was recognized for his skill in Chancery Cursive letterforms. . Like his contemporary Reynolds Stone, Wyattt was brilliant at engraving beautiful flowing calligraphic lettering that looked deceptively effortless. Born and raised in an orphanage, Wyatt was apprenticed to commercial engravers at age 15 and went on to win scholarships inc. the Goldsmiths' Company's competition for apprentice engravers (1929). He later worked freelance in London and environs before emigrating to South Africa for his daughter's health. Returning to the UK in 1961 he lectured at Newcastle's College of Art and Industrial Design until he retired. He made his name with calligraphy-based wood engravings.
