Zustand: Fair. 272 p., 133 engravings, 16 color plates. 8"x10" Although the faded paper binding has detached and been taped back on and the crowns of the tanned and brittle front-matter pages have been damaged, the actual art work within the book was printed on far superior paper to that of the text and is in good condition; the full-color, full-page plates have tissue guards. No pages are missing from still-solid text block. Pages are clean and unmarked, except for signature of former owner on half title page. It's real value, however, lies in the artwork . The only plate to be damaged is the frontispiece, and that at the top margin above the actual print. All others are suitable for framing.

Binding square, corners sharp; contents age-toned and slightly brittle, yet clean; plates fine. This sumptuous book recounts the life and work of Eugene Lami, the famed French painter, illustrator, and designer. It is extensively illustrated throughout with double plates of each of the works. Each is protected by a tissue guard. In full brown leather with ornate gilt ornaments decorating the covers. There are four raised bands on the spine with gilt decorations, author, and title. Light scuffing, bumping, and tear to top of spine along joint along with missing leather where label was removed. Unfortunately this heavy ex-library book's binding is detached from the text block. The free front endpaper is torn as is the half title. Ex-library although library markings are relatively unobtrusive, with an ownership stamp on the verso of the original cover bound in, small ink numbers on verso of title page and scraping to the rear free endpaper where sign-out card removed. The interior of the book is otherwise in very good condition. With the bookplate of Courtland Bishop (1870-1935) the pioneer U.S. aviator, autoist, traveler, and noted book collector. Price reflects flaws. In French. Folio volume with 206 pages plus plates. Heavy volume may require extra postage. ART/031419.

Zustand: Très bon état. gr. in-4, plein maroquin à grain long tabac, dos à quatre faux nerfs ornés d'une frise dorée, frises et fleurons dorés en pied et tête, caisson central marqué d'un fleuron à froid, décor d'encadrement sur les plats composé d'un filet doré avec fleur aux angles, d'une frise feuillue à froid et d'un large décor central rectangulaire doré reproduisant un vitrail gothique, bordure intérieure avec frise dorée, filet doré sur les coupes, coiffes guillochées, tête dorée, doubles couvertures et dos conservés (Durvand), 206 pp. Importante monographie illustrée de 60 gravures sous serpentes légendée, dont 5 planches en fac-similé en couleurs, incluant le frontispice par Carolus-Duran, et 55 photogravures. Tirage limité à 500 exemplaires numérotés sur papier à la main de Rives avec les gravures imprimées en camaïeu sur chine blanc contrecollé. Très belle reliure signée malgré d'infimes épidermures sur le second plat.

La portefeuille est abimée et détachée, il manque un rabat et la couverture est un peu souill. L'intérieur est en parfait état , sans tâches ni rousseurs. Belle collection de planches des gravures classiques (Rembrandt , Lucas de Leyde , Dürer , Canaletto, Goya.) reproduite ici sur beau papier, avec une technique superbe.
