First Edition. An exceptional copy; fine in an equally fine dw, now mylar-sleeved. Particularly and surprisingly well-preserved; tight, bright, clean and especially sharp-cornered. Literally as new.; 191 pages; Description: 191 p. : ill. (chiefly col.) ; 29 cm. "An Archetype Press book. " Includes bibliographical references and index. Subjects: Purcell, William Gray (1880-1965) --Criticism and interpretation --Elmslie, George Grant (1871-1952) --Architecture, Domestic --Middle West --Architecture --History --20th century --Prairie school (Architecture). Summary: The houses of William Gray Purcell and George Grant Elmslie built mainly in the Midwest and Northeast are the embodiment of the early 20th century marriage of fine craftsmanship and modern technology. Masterpieces of the Prairie Style, each home was designed with the groundbreaking idea that comfort and utility could harmonize with grace and style. Characterized by open plans and site-specific designs, Purcell and Elmslie residences are tied to the land by local materials and low, spreading forms. Their signature use of nature-based ornament and brilliant color further distinguished them from their contemporaries, Frank Lloyd Wright's houses among them. In 24 residential profiles and gorgeous new photographs, Prairie Style expert Dixie Legler and photographer Christian Korab vividly bring to life the pair's enduring dedication to simple elegance and honest design. At Home on the Prairie is the deluxe treatment that this ingenious duo deserves. 2 Kg.

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. 1st Edition. ARCHITECTURE AT HOME ON THE PRAIRIE PURCELL & ELMSLIE HOUSES 2006 1ST HARD COVER. Quoting from the flap of the dust jacket: "Built at a time when comfort and utility went hand in hand with beauty and grace, the timeless residences of the Prairie style bear witness to a powerful convergence of fine craftsmanship and modern technology. Houses designed by the architects William Gray Purcell and George Grant Elmslie helped usher in an age of optimism in America and look as pioneering today as they dd a century ago." I am very pleased to offer this large and lovely book of stunning architecture titled: "At Home on the Prairie the Houses of Purcell & Elmslie," by Dixie Legler and Christian Korab. This large hard cover book (10 x 11 ¼ inches, 192 pages) was published by Chronicle Books of San Francisco, dated 2006 and the First Edition/First Printing if I am reading the codes correctly. The book is bound in crème colored paper with a period design on the cover and titles on the spine; it is protected by a handsome, pictorial dust jacket. The book is lavishly illustrated throughout, with well-made color photos and some color architectural renderings. Condition: This book is in near fine condition. There is one tiny tear at the top of the spine of the dust jacket, barely visible. The hard covers are clean and bright with one small and pale blemish on the back cover, also barely perceptible. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are pristine, from cover to cover. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
