An illustrated work from 'The Minerva Library of Famous Books', in a full tree calf binding, with gilt detailing to the boards, spine and square, and marbled end papers and edges. Prize bookplate to the front paste down from Knutsford's High School for Girls. Illustrated with a frontispiece and numerous in-text illustrations. An informative biography of the notable author Oliver Goldsmith by the Victorian biographer John Forster (1812-1876). In a full tree calf binding. Externally, smart though front board is slightly warped, with cracking to the head and tail of the front joint. Light rubbing to the joints, extremities, and head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to the first and last few pages. Good. book.

Fairholt and many more. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, with light bumping to the head of the spine and extremities, and light spotting to the upper edge. The contents, with a small previous owner's bookplate pasted in to the inner flyleaf, are otherwise clean throughout, and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the better than very good, rubbed, nicked and creased original dustwrapper, which is lightly faded to the spine, and has a touch of spotting on the inside. A lovely example.
