Bone & Son to the rear paste down. Henry Sambrooke Leigh (1837-1883) was an English writer and playwright, who wrote many poetry collections. This is one of his early poetry collections, which include the lyric poems: 'Shabby-Genteel', 'Lays of Many Lands', 'Songs of the Sick Room', 'The Twins', and many more. Numerous illustrations by Richard "Dickie" Doyle (1824-1883), John Leech (1817-1864), Alfred Henry Forrester (1804-1872)…, known under the pseudonym of Alfred Crowquill, who were all well-known for their illustrations for Punch. William Edmondstoune Aytoun (1813-1865) and Sir Theodore Martin (1816-1909) were both Scottish poets. In around 1841, they became acquainted, and together they wrote a series of humorous articles on the fashions and follies of the time, in which were interspersed the verses which afterwards became popular as the Bon Gaultier Ballads (1855). In a half calf binding. Externally smart, with a little rubbing to the extremities and bumping to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean with the odd spot throughout.
