Kunst / Grafik / Poster Erstausgabe
No Binding. Zustand: Fine. 1st Edition. A fabulous-condition Finnish A2 cinema poster for the 1953 movie, VICE SQUAD starring Edward G. Robinson & Paulette Godard. The movie is also known as The Girl from Room 17 and it is this less "salacious" title which is referred to in the poster. The actual Finnish title translates as "Flying Squad". The film was first screened in cinemas in Finland in 1953 with no subsequent theatrical screenings. This poster is not a modern reproduction and nor is it Video/DVD-related. Standard size 23.5" x slightly under 16" approx. It is in fantastic condition - unfolded and with no chips or tears to the edges - one or two small handling creases. At the top - in the brim of the hat - there is a puncture or split to the paper although there is not actual loss. There are no pinholes - it may be an unused poster. Really Fine condition - would be Mint if not for the puncture, difficult though it may be to grade a 70 year-old piece of paper in that way. Beautifully illustrated and artist signature in the plate. A stunning example of vintage cinema art and design. For best appreciation of condition, please examine the high-resolution image which accompanies this listing.

Vintage publicity photograph from the 1958 film, showing actress Eartha Kitt leaning against a lamppost, smoking a cigarette. Layout annotations in manuscript ink and pencil on the verso. Based on Philip Yordan's 1936 play. A young woman returns to her family home hoping to escape life as as prostitute, after being driven into destitution years before by her overbearing, puritanical father. Yordan originally set his play in the Polish American community, but failed to find backers. The script was subsequently offered to American Negro Theatre director Henry Wagstaff Gribble for an all African-American cast in 1944. It became a critical and commercial success, running for 957 performances, touring the United States and Europe, and twice being adapted into film, first in 1949 with a white cast, directed by Irving Rapper and starring Paulette Goddard, and again in 1957, restoring the all-Black cast and starring Kitt and Sammy Davis Jr. 8 x 10 inches. Lightly toned and creased on the margins, else Near Fine.
