Page edges tanned and internal pages discoloured. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Book.

Some rubbing to edges, but overall excellent condition. Books for Young Ladies listed in the back as well as ads for English Novels. An obituary is pinned in the back concerning Habberton's son, "Toddie", in the book. He was only five at the time of his death. (CK).

Mild edgewear and touch of rubbing; tiny chip on front flyleaf and odd glossy bookplate of a J.D. Williamson on front pastedown; nonauthorial gift inscription on inner flyleaf. A tight, attractive later state of the first hardbound printing (6 ad pages instead of 2) of this popular humorous novel.

Has soiling to cover and pages, with creases. Cracking between the cover and pages exposing the webbing. The ffep has a large part torn off. Small inscription and a name written inside. First six leaves with tiny corner off. Inscription reads "Thos. B. Preslau, with hearty regards of John Habberton" and ex libris of Estelle Doheny. *A bachelor's vicissitudes looking after the two children of his sister and written in "baby talk". A lovely set of the first books that were a literary success by this author and became a great humorous classic in rather scarce first editions and one with nice inscriptions. From the library of Estelle Doheny (1875-1958) a noted bibliophile whose magnificent collection was sold by Christie's in 1988. 2 volumes. Hardcover.
