Ralph Eugene Lapp [1917-2004] was an American physicist who participated in the Manhattan Project, which developed the world's first nuclear bomb. He was executive director of the War department's committee on atomic energy and also was head of the Nuclear Physics branch of the Office of Naval Research. In 1971 he coined the expression "China Syndrome"- an uncontrolled nuclear meltdown. This is one of his earliest books on the subject of nuclear radiation physics. In 1957 he drew world attention to the dangers of nuclear fallout with his book "Victims Of The Super Bomb.".
