Map ( 1420 x 2500 mm) devided into 10 parts ( each part messuring 710 x 505 mm); - Kaart Van Suriname Naar De Opmetingen Gedaan in De Jaren 1860 - 1879 - Door J.F.A. Cateau Van Rosevelt, Oud Officier Ridder Der Orden Van Den Nederlandschen Leeuw En Van Het Legioen Van Eer. Lid Van Den Raad Van Bestuur in Suriname. The top left part; Britisch Guyana, is in FACSIMILE from the Buyten & Schipperheijn edition 2004. Portfolio; spine is missing. Nine original parts and one part in facsimile of this very rare and large map of Suriname. Size: 517 x 725 Mm. Book.

In den Warenkorb4 works (the first in 3 parts) in 1 volume, small folio and 4to. [1]: 6 leaves, pp. 41, (1); 180, folding letterpress table; 181, (3). Contemporary vellum. A fine and fresh copy. A most remarkable and handsome collection of instrument books and astronomical tables by and about Philip van Lansberge (1561?1632), one of the most influential advocates of the Copernican doctrine in Protestant Europe and one of the two most important astronomers in the Low Countries during the first half of the 17th century.[1]. Second edition, comprising a reissue of the sheets of the original edition of 1632 with a new title-page. In it Lansberge propounds an epicyclic theory based on Brahe, as he could not accept Kepler?s theory of elliptical orbits. He produced these rival tables, which were simpler and widely used by astronomers. Lansberge, contrary to Kepler?s prediction, correctly predicted the transit of Venus in 1639.[2]. A reissue of the sheets of the first Latin edition of 1633; a guide to the use of the quadrant and the astrolabe, with improvements in their design. A fine engraved vignette on the title-page shows two astronomers using the astrolabe.[3]. First edition in Latin (from the Dutch of 1628). On the construction and use of the astrolabe.[4]. First edition, a vigorous defence by Philip?s brother Jacques of Philip?s espousal of the Copernican system against the attacks of Morin and Libert Froidmond. He defends the Copernican theory as being a correct description of the motion of the heavens and theologically acceptable.

In den WarenkorbRare first (and only Latin) edition of Van Lansberge's detailed and well-illustrated treatise on sundials, posthumously published by Zacharias Roman in Middelburg, who had published most of his works. Roman says he found this text in manuscript among the papers of Van Lansberge's estate. Planning the publication of the complete works, he decided to publish this text as well. The present treatise was designed to be bound with the Opera omnia, published in the same year. From the library of Christopher St. John Hume Daniel, author of several recent books on sundials. Lacking folios A2-3, containing Roman's dedication to Nicolaas Blanckaert and brief note to the reader, and with a few of the figures shaved by the binder, but otherwise in very good condition.l Bierens de Haan 2675; STCN (5 copies); not in Poggendorff; for Lansberge: DSB VIII, pp. 27-28; NNBW II, cols. 775-782. Modern paper-covered boards with title printed on spine. With 61 woodcuts in the text (1 repeated on the title-page, illustrating a sundial), many more than half-page, including both sundials and diagrams illustrating how they work, a woodcut headpiece and a woodcut decorated initial. With extensive 19th-century manuscript notes on the back of the title-page and the illustrations numbered by hand. Lacking 2 leaves containing Roman's dedication. Pages: [2], 53 pp.
