With annotations in German in manuscript pencil identifying Lenya and photographer Tobin Warner on the verso, along with an annotation noting the photograph as property of "Close Up" magazine. Based on the 1928 stage play "Die Dreigroschenoper…" by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill. A biting, socialist "play with music," based on Elisabeth Hauptmann's translation of John Gay's eighteenth-century ballad opera "The Beggar's Opera," and on four ballads by François Villon. Lenya would go on to receive a Tony Award for her performance in Marc Blitzstein's English version of the play in 1956. 9.25 x 12 inches. Very Good plus, faintly age toned, with light creasing on the top right corner.

Based on the 1919 novel "L'Atlantide" by French writer Pierre Benoit, and a remake of the 1921 film of the same name by Jacques Feyder. The film was shot in French, German, and English, each version starring Brigi…tte Helm as the Queen of Atlantis, a secret kingdom underneath the Sahara Desert. Two explorers discover Atlantis accidentally, only to find that the though the queen often takes lost men as lovers, she is quick to make mummies of them. Shot on location in Algeria and Germany. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine.

Original, vintage, black and white, sepia photograph. 140 × 177 mm. Original still from Alexander (Sándor) Korda's 1919 silent drama film "Yamata". Showing Ila Lóth as Ninette and Gábor Rajnay as Yamata on the street, under an ornamented iron gate. The film intended to be a support for the short lived Hungarian Soviet Republic t…hrough its story about Yamata the slave, who is mistreated by his master and taken under the wings by a young aristocrat who uses him in more subtle ways and even implicated in a murder. Finally, after Yamata rebels, he got killed. Korda's commitment to the communists, and the apparent political content of "Yamata" and his other movie "Ave Caesar", led to his arrest following the fall of the Soviet régime and after the release the emigration to Vienna and finally to London. The film has not been preserved and we could not find any stills or memorabilia related to the movie, which gives particular value to this photo. [Bibl: Waldman, H.: Missing reels.
