Paris, Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle, [1852]. Large 4to (32.2 x 24.9 cm). 208 pp.; 13 engraved plates of which five partly hand-coloured or tinted. Original printed wrappers. = Important contribution to the knowledge of river weeds (or riverweeds) by the great French botanist and mycologist Louis René "Edmond" Tulasne (1815-1885). This is a family of mainly (sub)tropical plants, generally found in vulnerable and threatened habitats. The work occupies the whole of the Museum's Archives Volume 6, Parts 1-2 and this copy has the original wrappers of these combined issues. Uncut, with wide margins. Disbound. = A fine, illustrated monograph by the French botanist Louis René Étienne Tulasne (1815-1885). He was generally known as "Edmond", but here named, in Latin, "Ludovicus-Renatus." The descriptions are quite detailed, as are the illustrations which were made by his brother, Charles Tulasne (1816-1884). With an index to scientific and vernacular names. Published in the Muséum's Archives, volume 8. With wide margins. A few text pages a bit spotted, last two plates with a marginal water stain and more spotted, otherwise a very good copy. Rare.
