A detailed record of the culmination of the Second Opium War compiled from official French documents by naval lieutenant Pallu; from the attack on the Pei-ho [Taku] Forts in June 1859 to 9 December 1860. With the march on Peking, the plundering of the Summer Palace and the near complete destruction of Yuan Ming-yuan, designed by the Jesuits for the K'ang-hsi emperor in 1702.
