Erstausgabe
Softcover. Zustand: vg+ to fine condition. First edition. Large Octavo. 68pp. Original half dark blue half cloth over blue cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Decorative title-page. Scarce and fascinating work in which the author makes a strong and persuasive case that there were few Jews in the planting class in the South; that Jews had historically been forced into commercial enterprises; that in the Old South they were typically city dwellers; that a small number participated in the domestic slave trade; that they treated their slaves no better or worse than other slave holders; and that the few Jews in the South without exception endorsed slavery. The thrust of Korn's work is that Jews were not much different from other white southerners in their views on race and slavery. This study is profusely illustrated with 12 b/w photographic reproductions of documents, portraits and views on eight pages of glossy paper. Wrappers with minor smudges. Binding with very light wear along edges. Stamp of American Jewish Archive on front free endpaper, else in fine condition overall.
