Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Anglistik - Literatur, Note: 2,3, Universität Rostock, 5 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Zu Zeiten der Antike und des Mittelalters wurde der Fortschritt in den Bereichen der Wissenschaft, der Kultur sowie der Ethik gleich bewertet. Umfangreiches Wissen wurde nach dem griechischen Philosophen Sokrates auch ethisch für gut empfunden, was bedeutete, dass ein Fortschritt in der Wissenschaft auch gleichzeitig eine Entwicklung hinsichtlich der Moral der Menschen darstellte. Während der Neuzeit kam es jedoch zu einer Abgrenzung von den Naturwissenschaften und der Philosophie. Die Vorstellung des Fortschritts geriet mehr und mehr in die Kritik, denn es wurde deutlich, dass bezüglich der ethischen Werte weniger Fortschritte als beispielsweise in den Naturwissenschaften erzielt wurden. Da sich ab Mitte des 20.Jahrhunderts mit dem Aufkommen der Atomenergie sowie der Genmanipulation auch negative Folgen unter den Fortschritten abzeichneten, wurde des Weiteren die Idee des Fortschrittes selbst zunehmend kritisiert. Der britische Schriftsteller Aldous Huxley war sich dieser Problematik schon einige Jahre vorher bewusst und beschreibt in seiner 1932 erschienenen Dystopie Brave New World eine Welt, in der die Menschen unfähig sind, technologischen und wissenschaftlichen Fortschritt mit humaner und sozialer Strukturierung des Alltagslebens zu vereinbaren. Freiheit und Individualität werden hier gegen ein Leben in einer hochtechnisierten Konsum- und Spaßgesellschaft eingetauscht. Persönliche Wert- und Moralvorstellungen werden dabei gänzlich außer Acht gelassen, denn alle Aspekte des Lebens werden vom Staat organisiert und vorgegeben. Ziel dieser Hausarbeit ist es, darzustellen, inwiefern die in Brave New World beschriebenen wissenschaftlichen wie auch technologischen Fortschritte als Triumph bezeichnet werden können. Nach einer kurzen Erläuterung zu den Hintergründen des Romans werde ich dafür zunächst das Menschenbild unter den drei Leitgedanken Einheitlichkeit, Gemeinschaftlichkeit und Beständigkeit , welche das Motto in Huxleys totalitärem Weltstaat bilden, ausführlich beschreiben. Daraufhin werde ich den Begriff Triumph definieren und basierend auf dieser Erklärung den Bezug zu den angewandten Wissenschaften mithilfe des zuvor ausgearbeiteten Menschenbilds herstellen (.).…
