Kivijärvis most famous works, such as the monument to the memory of president Paasikivi, consist of non-representational forms, sculpted from black stone, whose carefully worked surfaces alternate between smoothly polished areas and sections that have been left rough. Kivijärvi was born in Turku and studied in Turku Drawing School 1947-1950 and in Academy of Arts 1950-1952. Kivijärvi started his career in art as a painter. He took up sculpture after spending time in Rome 1955-1956. His first sculptures were small, figurative metal sculptures. The first non-figurative sculpture was monument to Uno Cygnaeus in Hämeenlinna in middle of 1960s. During his career Kivijärvi made many public memorials and monuments (Quelle Wikipedia) --- Harry Kivijärvi war ein Bildhauer aus Finnland. Hardcover. Zustand: As New. 1st Edition. Harry Kivijärvi (1931-2010) was one of Finland's best-known - and most international - sculptors. The artist, whose primary material was black stone, has been described as carrying on the age-old dialogue between humankind and stone. While aware of the long tradition behind him, Kivijärvi succeeded in finding his own distinctive expression that placed him in the ranks of the modernists. He was active on the Finnish art scene and was concerned to preserve the craft of stone working. Time of Stone situates Kivijärvi's art in the long lineage of stone sculpture by juxtaposing his works with those of six contemporary sculptors: Maria Duncker, Timo Hannunen, Aaron Heino, Anne Koskinen, Laura Könönen and Ville Mäkikoskela. Each of them sets their own characteristic use of stone alongside Harry Kivijärvi's art. Related to the exhibition The Time of Stone at Serlachius Museums, Finland 13 October 2018 - 14 April 2019. Text in English. 119 pp.

Soft Cover. Zustand: Near Fine. Text in English and Norwegian. 160 pp. Minor edge wear to the covers. The Finno-Norwegian photographer and journalist Käre Kivijärvi was born in Hammerfest, in northern Norway, in 1938. At various times in later life he was resident in Finland, Oslo and Cyprus, where he died in 1991. After a stint as a selftaught photojournalists, from 1958 to 1960 he studied under Professor Otto Steinert in Germany. Steinert was a leading representative of the subjective photography school then in vouge, a movement which provided Kivijärvi with some of his ideas. In the early 1960s he worked for various Norwegian and Finnish newspapers and magazines. His assignments took him all over the world, and the photographs he took - many of them accompanied by lively captions - admirably and uniquely combine documentary and aesthetic qualities: they exhibit a rare blend of human sensitivity and consummate craftmanship. This book features fifty-five of Kivijärvi's photographs, among them a number of hitherto unpublished colour pictures.
