Contemporary sheep, blind fillets to boards, lettering piece and blind fillets to spine. Some rubbing to boards and extremities, spine moderately abraded, joints starting at head, offsetting to margins of endleaves, very light browning to text. Early owner signature (of Stephen F. Miller) to front pastedown, interior otherwise clean. $450. * Only edition. As a lawyer, judge, author and the state's first law professor, Keyes was the most important figure in the early legal history of Alabama. A prominent secessionist, he was assistant attorney general for the Confederacy during the Civil War. He wrote two treatises, a treatise on real property and the present title, a review of case law as it relates to chattels personal, including "slaves, cattle, furniture, books, victuals, money and the like" (1).
