Namensgeber ist Friedrich Christian Flick, Enkel des im Nurnberger Prozess wegen Kriegsverbrechen verurteilten Friedrich Flick. Ab September 2004 wird die ,Flick-Collection" als Leihgabe in Berlin in einer eigens umgebauten Halle prasentiert. Da das Vermogen zum Aufbau dieser Sammlung nicht zuletzt aus Kriegsgewinnen und der brutalen Ausbeutung von Zwangsarbeitern stammt, hat das Vorhaben schon vor Jahren in ganz Europa Bedenken und Ablehnung provoziert. Wahrend die ,Berliner Szene" fur die ,Flick-Collection" geradezu ungetrubte Begeisterung zeigte, stiess insbesondere dieser Umstand bei vielen auf heftige Kritik, auf die wiederum Flick und die Ausstellungsmacher erst spat und zogerlich mit Kompromisslosungen reagierten.
