Er zijn altijd wel een paar uitzonderingen. Tot deze groep mag ik zeker vele cabaretiers rekenen. Zij kunnen op hun eigen duidelijke wijze vertolken dat het in de wereld ook anders kan en mág. Nederland heeft een oude cabarettraditie. Tegenwoordig bezitten we in dit kleine land een groot aantal cabaretgroepen van hoog niveau. Ik denk dat de huidige kleinkunst zeer veel te danken heeft aan de vooroorlogse generaties. Vandaar dat ik de herdruk van het boekje Mens, durf te leven! van harte toejuich. Het is een stukje cabaretgeschiedenis dat inmiddels ook een stukje Nederlandse geschiedenis is geworden; dat het geheel en niet in de laatste plaats nog typisch Amsterdamse trekken vertoont is natuurlijk geen wonder.
