This scarce publication was printed in the occasion of the 80th birthday of prominent French-Jewish scholar Joseph Derenbourg (1811-1895), by the society of which he was a prominent member. The text throughout, written by esteemed Jewish scholars Rabbi Zadoc Kahn (1839-1905) and Rabbi Isidore Loeb (1839 - 1892) honors Derenbourg's contributions to the Société des études juives (Society for Jewish Studies), and his work in the field of Jewish scholarship. All of the previously mentioned figures were prominent contributors the Society's publication, "Revue des études juives" (the Journal of Jewish Studies). Tissue-guarded engraved frontispiece portrait of Derenbourg in black, at the front. Text throughout in French. Wrappers with some light rubbing to extremities and minor chipping to the tail of the spine. Covers with minor smudges and stains. Age toning. Wrappers in very good-, interior in near fine condition overall. Quite scarce. Protected by modern mylar.
