It is not easy to write a history of an institution and particularly difficult to write an interesting history of a library. So we decided to make an anthology of reminiscences, quotations, pictures and articles, to try to bring alive the Library at various times in its past and to suggest the main stages of its growth, the interest of its collections and the generoisty of its benefactors. Our hope is that this scrapnok, will enteratin, for as anyone who has worked in a library knows, libraries are often comic, and there have been some interesting and some eccentric members of staff here.
