Profesor de liturgia en la Innsbruck Leopold-Franzens-Universität, se distinguó como un gran impulsor del movimiento litúrgico pidiendo la participación activa de los fieles. Su obra maestra, Missarum Sollemnia, se tradujo para el mundo hispano con el título El sacrificio de la Misa.
