Zustand: Good. (Fretted). While many extant photos of string band artists show members holding a mandolin, it often can barely be heard in most period recordings because the most important instrument to capture was usually the fiddle or voice. This collection provides you with the opportunity to learn over 70 old-time-music period songs recorded mostly by Ernest Stoneman, or the duo Grayson & Whitter, during the 1920s and early 1930s. Many of these songs were also covered by other string bands regardless of whether they had the opportunity or not to be commercially recorded. CD tracks of some of the songs in this collection as recorded by a number of different string band artists are provided so that performances can be compared.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - (Banjo). After the Civil War, the 'up picking' finger style of playing the 5-string banjo came into vogue eventually finding its way into the Victorian parlor and, later, college glee and music clubs. The original down picking style didn't entirely die out, because throughout the reaminder of the 19th Century, new methods for the banjo often included a number of songs in the older two-finger banjo style of performance. Perhaps the most intricate set of songs to appear in the 'original' banjo style were these 34 progressive pieces found in Frank B. Converse's Analytical Banjo Method from 1887. Those songs, presented in this book for clawhammer banjo, offer a nice mix of banjo characteristic pieces, medleys and new compositions from Converse. …

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - (Fretted). The focus of this book is on American mandolin music that was published circa 1900 during the 'Golden Age of the Mandolin' in the United States (1885-1920), referred to by Mark Twain as The Gilded Age . After a brief overview of period mandolin techniques, a variety of popular social ballroom dances are then presented in both staff notation and mandolin tablature, including waltzes, polkas, schottisches, mazurkas, marches and even the occasional hornpipe. Along the way, you will discover a variety of idiomatic playing techniques that will open up new vistas in your own playing. So tune up your mandolin and get started.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - (Fretted). The popularity of the mandolin in the United States between 1885-1915 led to the formation of many regional mandolin orchestras and mandolin clubs across the country, particularly in the urban areas of the Northeast and Midwest, but also as far west as San Francisco and as far south as New Orleans, e.g., the Tulane University Mandolin Club. In fact, Scott Joplin dedicated one of his early rags, 'The Entertainer,' to his local mandolin club in Sedalia, Missouri, i.e., to 'Mr. James Brown and his mandolin club.' So tune up your mandolin and enjoy playing the music that would have been heard in the neighborhood dance halls and feel like you're back in the Gilded Age! Each song in this collection is arranged for mandolin in staff notation and mandolin tablature with chord symbols.…
